Journey on Relaxation Exercise

Sitting here this morning trying to do this relaxation exercise and learn how to start blogging all at the same time.  Interestingly enough I find that I'm not the least bit relaxed.  The guy's voice in the exercise was very soothing and the music was tranquil.  However, he didn't give me the time I felt I needed to really move the blood from my abdomen to my arms and back.  I've done many guided relaxation techniques in the past and have enjoyed them.  This one was not very beneficial to me.  I think when you know you are completing a mandatory relaxation exercise to write an evaluation on it takes away from the purpose of the exercise.  I wasn't able to rest my mind.  All I kept thinking was "how is this going to make me feel" and "what will I say in the blog".  Then the phone rang and that really didn't allow me to reap any benefits.  I assume I will try this again later after I'm certain that my blog was published and working.

  1. Tish,
Timing is everything when preparing to start a relaxation technique. I was listening to this exercise while sitting in the hospital with my father. It was difficult to focus, but the tranquil music was helpful in taking my mind off all the bells and alarms of the emergency room. I know I will be able to benefit even more when I accomplish some of the homework assignments that are looming over my head. The stress of not meeting deadlines is overwhelming when the unexpected moments of life step in.

  2. Hello Tish. I believe more time should've been made to get us in the mood to relax and be in HIS world. It wasn't beneficial to me either. I really wanted to just relax and put every stress in my head outside so I can be engulfed in his words but it just wasn't happening with me. The CD that we received for one our textbooks also has the same sort of trend in trying to relax us. It's not even half an hour I think.

  3. Tish, it took me listening to the audio one time through just to get my pulse to quit racing, I know that sounds weird, but every time I lay down, my heart begins to race like I just got through working out intensely. So, I listened to it a second time and found it actually beginning to work. By the time it was over, I felt relaxed and more focused. I have to agree with Rozelle, timing and mind set is everything when it comes to trying to relax. I hope that your next exercise goes a little better for you!!

  4. Sometimes it is hard to get into a zone. You have to get into a zone but it has to come from within. No worries. No stress is allowed during this exercise. LOL
